MMA Odds and Ends for Wednesday: Rothwell vs. Barnett booked, Jones breaks silence & Hendricks news

Josh Barnett vs. Ben Rothwell set for UFC on FOX 18 Last night on FOX Sports Live it was announced that Josh Barnett will be taking on Ben Rothwell January 30th at UFC on FOX 18. The card is headlined by Anthony Johnson taking on Ryan Bader. Barnett (34-7), is coming off a five-round unanimous decision victory over Roy Nelson. Rothwell (35-9) scored a first round submission victory over Matt Mitrione at UFC Fight Night 68 in June. He was slated to take on Stipie Miocic back in October at UFC Fight Night 76 however the matchup ended up being scrapped due to an injury to Miocic. Then in somewhat of a surprising move the UFC then decided to book Miocic against Andrei Arlovski at UFC 195, leaving Rothwell without an opponent up until last night.   Jon Jones conducts first full-length interview since arrest  Dominating the headlines yesterday was the exclusive interview MMAFighting.com’s Ariel Helwani conducted with former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. Jones (21-1) was involved in a hit-and-run car accident back in April where he was was arrested, held on bail and inevitably suspended by the UFC. He plead guilty to a felony charge (leaving the scene of an accident) and was served 18 months of supervised probation. Back in October the UFC reinstated Jones and yesterday was the first time we’ve heard Jones conduct an interview since the whirlwind of events.   Johny Hendricks to leave Team Takedown, hires new nutritionist  MMAJunkie.com reported yesterday that former UFC welterweight champion Johny Hendricks couldn’t come to an agreement with his management firm Team Takedown and is set to leave the camp when his contract expires with them in February 2016. Hendricks plans to sit on the sidelines and not accept another fight until that situation is resolved. In addition the 32-year old has hired the services of nutrition coach Louis Girodano, who also works with UFC bantamweight Aljamain Sterling and former UFC middleweight Eddie Gordon. Hendricks was expected to face Tyron Woodley on at UFC 192 back in October however the matchup never materialized. Prior to the weigh-ins Hendricks suffered intestinal blockage and kidney stone attack suffered by Hendricks while the UFC wasn’t able to find Woodley a replacment on short notice. Girodano has appeared on this website numerous times and recently did an interview on The Parting Shot Podcast discussing Ronda Rousey’s weight cut issues at UFC 193.   WSOF 26 main card line-up revealed  Also confirmed by MMAJunkie.com, WSOF 26: Palmer vs. Almeida will take place in Las Vegas on Dec. 18th. In the main event featherweight champion Lance Palmer (10-1) takes on Alexandre Almeida (17-5). Blackzillians product Tyrone Spong (2-0) returns to the WSOF cage against Jake Heun (8-4). Lightweight Ozzy Dugulubgov (7-2) squares off with WSOF newcomer Nic Herron-Webb (18-6). Rounding out the main card is Josh Hill (12-1) battling Bekbulat Magomedov (16-0), and Sheymon Moraes (7-1) going to battle with featherweight UFC vet Robbie Peralta (18-6). Here’s a look at the main card lineup which takes place at 9pm ET on NBC Sports Network.
