UFC Fight Night 78 Closing Odds and Results

61f9e7fc98b11beda1f7427d58379565 UFC Fight Night 78 took place tonight (Saturday, November 21st, 2015) at the Arena Monterray in Nuevo Leon, Mexico and was headlined by Kelvin Gastelum taking on Neil Magny. Overall from a betting perspective, six favorites won while seven underdogs came through on the closing odds at Several Bookmakers. Here’s a quick recap for each fight.   Underdogs That Won In the main event of the evening Neil Magny narrowly won a split decision over Kelvin Gastelum. Magny showed lots of improvements in this fight, particularly in his grappling in the early going. However he did struggle in the later rounds getting tagged several times by Gastelum and was almost finished in the 4th round. Nevertheless Magny survived and came away as the +285 underdog while Gastelum lost as the -315  favorite. In the TUF Latin America 2 welterweight final underdog Erick Montaño earned a split decision over close friend Enrique Marín. Both fighters put on a uninspiring offering but it would be Montano getting the better of the exchanges on the feet. Montano hits as the +185 underdog, while Montano comes up short as the -220 favorite. In the TUF Latin America 2 lightweight final, Enrique Barzola was deemed the tournament winner after earning a unanimous decision over Horacio Gutiérrez. Barzola put on a wrestling clinic over three round affair. He cashes as the +185 underdog while Gutierrez fails to come through as the -200 favorite. In the bantamweight division, TUF Latin America 1 winner Alejandro Perez used a series of powerful leg kicks to force veteran Scott Jorgensen to bow out due to injury.  The majority of damage was done in the first round and it was surprising to see Jorgensen comes out for the second, but it was only a matter of time before the referee had to stop the fight. Perez cashes as the +120 underdog while Jorgensen loses as the -130 favorite. Welterweight Alvaro Herrera scored a first round TKO victory over Vernon Ramos in his UFC debut. Herrera landed a right hand in the opening stanza which sent Ramos to the mat. From there the 35-year old landed bombs and forced referee Dan Miragliotta to step in and call the fight. Herrera cashes as the +155 underdog while Ramos falls short as the -165 favorite. In the lightweight division, Polo Reyes earned the first finish of the evening as he knocked out 24-year old Cesar Arzamendia in the first round. Reyes comes through as the +170 underdog, while Arzamendia fails to cash as the -185 favorite.   Favorites That Won In the co-main event of the evening in the featherweight division the judges got it right, awarding Ricardo Lamas a unanimous decision victory over Diego Sanchez (30-27 x 3). Sanchez hurt his leg midway through the fight and Lamas was able to take advantage by picking apart the TUF 1 winner with shots. Lamas cashes as the- 420 favorite while  Diego Sanchez fails to come through as the +375 underdog. In the flyweight division Henry Cejudo likely earned his spot as the next challenger to Demetrious Johnson’s title as he earned a split decision over Jussier Formia. Not surprising, Cejudo used his wrestling over the three round affair to score takedowns and control the majority of the fight. Cejudo comes through as the  -525 favorite while  Jussier Formiga loses as the  +450 underdog. In the lightweight division Leandro Silva earned a unanimous decision (29-28 x 3) over TUF 8 winner Efrain Escudero. Silva relentless attack and submission attempts were enough to overwheml The MMA Lab product over the three round affair. Silva cashes as the -135 favorite while the underdog Escudado loses at  +135. In the bantamweight division Erik Perez made an impressive return to the octagon after a lengthy layoff to defeat Taylor Lapilus by unanimous decision (29-28 x 3). Despite a solid first round for Lapilus, it was all Perez from there on in with a series of takedowns on route to victory. Perez cashes as the -145 favorite while Lapilus loses as the +135 underdog. In the welterweight division Bartosz Fabiński put forth a dominant performance against crowd favorite  Hector Urbina. Fabinski used a series of takedowns and outstruck his opponent over a three round affair, despite Urbina threatening a few times with submission attempts. Fabinski comes through as the -170 favorite while +160  underdog Bartosz Fabiński loses. Featherweight Andre Fili bounced back from his loss to Godofredo Pepey in a big way, knocking out Gabriel Benitez in the first round. After trading strikes, the Team Alpha Male member landed a high kick, followed by a flurry of punches. Fili comes through as the -220 favorite while Benitez loses as the +200 underdog. In a lightweight bout, Michel Prazeres improved his record to 19-2 with a split decision victory over Valmir Lázaro. The 32-year old cashes as the slight favorite -130 while Lozaro lost as the +120 underdog.
