Post-UFC 191: And the Bonus Goes to…

Raquel-PenningtonThe Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was back in Las Vegas last Saturday night (September 5, 2015) for UFC 191: Johnson vs Dodson II. After the event concluded, the UFC awarded $50,000 to two fighters for ‘Performance of the Night’ and two fighters for ‘Fight of the Night’. The lines to wager on these props were available at Several Bookmakerss. And without further ado, UFC 191’s Post-Fight Bonus-Award winners were… Anthony Johnson earns Performance of the Night (formerly, Knockout of the Night) At the weigh-ins for UFC 191, Johnson clearly appeared to be the smaller fighter standing next to his opponent Jimi Manuwa. However, on fight night, when the two squared off, it was Johnson who appeared to clearly be the larger fighter. He used that size advantage to employ his offensive wrestling, for which he has been training with Neil Melanson. He found success with it in the first round, keeping the Brit on his back for the majority of the stanza. In the begining of the second frame, the two exchanged, and Johnson connected, dropping Manuwa and following up with more punches, forcing the referee to intervene and halt the action, giving “Rumble” the knockout victory. Another impressive knockout victory under his belt, Johnson is back in the win columnn following his failed bid for the UFC’s 205-pound title against Daniel Cormier. Noteworthy T/KO(s): – There were no other T/KO’s for UFC 191. Raquel Pennington earns Performance of the Night (formerly, Submission of the Night) Pennington defeated Jessica Andrade via rear naked choke submission with only two seconds remaining in the second stanza. It was a fun, back and forth fight between the two ladies in this rematch. Andrade was getting the better of Pennington in the begining, but the tide seemed to be turning in the second frame, where “Rocky” eventually sinked up a choke and squeezed tight to earn the tapout victory, ultimately returning to the win column following a split decision loss to current UFC women’s bantamweight title challenger Holly Holm Noteworthy Submission(s): – Paige VanZant defeated Alex Chambers via third round armbar submission to go 3-0 inside the Octagon. She was clearly winning the fight heading into the third frame, but continued to look for the finish and secured it only a minute into the stanza. Another impressive victory for VanZant, who continues to climb up the ranks at 115. John Lineker and John Lineker earn Fight of the Night honors for their two minute war on the preliminary card of this past Saturday night’s UFC 191 in Las Vegas. The two traded blows, with Lineker dropping Rivera a number of times, but the Southern Californian wouldn’t go out, as he kept throwing everything and the kitchen sink back at Lineker in reckless abandonment. Lineker’s chin held up and when the fight hit the mat, he sinked up a guillotine choke on Rivera, while Rivera was likely trying to clear the cobwebs. He tightened up the choke and earned the tapout victory; his first in the UFC’s bantamweight division. This was a very entertaining fight from start to finish, and despite only lasting a couple of minutes, both fighters were well deserving of the bonus. Other noteworthy fight(s): – The aforementioned Pennington vs Andrade bout. – The aforementioned Johnson vs Manuwa bout.
