UFN 41 + TUF Brazil 3 Finale fantasy preview plus $250 Kountermove freeroll for MMAOddsBreaker readers

KountermoveThe mixed martial arts (MMA) fantasy website Kountermove is back with another freeroll for MMAOddsBreaker.com readers. If you’re not familiar with how the site works, here’s a brief snippet from the site owners, themselves.

Kountermove brings the traditional fantasy format to MMA. Accumulation of points and a salary cap make fantasy MMA more intriguing than your basic “pick ’em” contest. With other industry pros on the site it is the place to be if you know your MMA. The game is fairly simple on its face, games are played over a single night during one event. Prior to the event, players get a total of $25,000 fantasy dollars to pick five fighters for your team. Each fighter is given a specific salary by Kountermove. Kountermove assigns a value for each fighter based on how we believe the fight will go. Points are scored if a fighter scores a finish, wins a round, lands significant strikes, knocks an opponent down, scores takedowns, secures dominant positions or attempts submissions. The more dominant your fighters’performance, the more points you’re going to score. If you score more points than your opponents, then you win the money.

If you’re interested in a few pointers on potential fighters to pick, I’ll be offering my analysis and potential picks to click. In case you have your doubts, I have a very nice track record of success with the website, having won plenty since its inception. Before I get to my picks, remember that to get the best value out of your team, you have to try to get an average of $5000 per fighter with your team of five fighters and your $25,000 salary cap. That means if you want to pick a big favorite from UFN 41 or the TUF Brazil 3 Finale like Stipe Miocic ($5800), you have to balance it out by picking some underdogs that you think will perform above and beyond. Sometimes it’s not worth it to pick the overwhelming favorite. Without further ado, here are some of the picks that stand out for me: Ricardo Abreu ($5000): If it wasn’t for a controversial decision in the semifinals, Abreu would be competing this weekend for the title of Ultimate Fighter for third Brazilian season in the middleweight division. The talented ground technician should be in very good shape against opponent Wagner Silva, who is still very raw in my opinion. Abreu should have Silva beat in all areas, especially when this fight most likely hits the canvas. Look for him to get a stoppage via ground and pound or via submission once the fight goes there. Underdog Pick of the Night Maximo Blanco ($4600): Honestly, there aren’t a ton of huge dogs on either card according to Kountermove that I like for my team. Blanco is a decent betting favorite at the moment against Andy Ogle, but he’s the cheaper fighter for your team on KM. Blanco has major technical and physical advantages over Ogle and if the fight is finished, it’s much more likely that he’d be the one to pull it off due to his solid punching power on the feet or via ground and pound. Granted, Blanco makes some dumb mistakes and has crashed and burned in the past as a hefty betting favorite, but I think he pulls it out this time around. Fighter to Avoid Francis Carmont ($4700): Carmont is a slight betting favorite heading into his fight against CB Dolloway in the UFN 41 co-main event, but he’s just rarely an exciting fighter to have on your team. Carmont’s overall game primarily consists of stifling his opponents with his superior size and grappling. Even if he defeats Dollaway, it’ll most likely be because he wore him down against the cage or with a few takedowns. That being said, I doubt he’s able to outwrestle Dollaway and he could very well be at a disadvantage on the feet. With 22 fights taking place between both cards, there are plenty of better options for your team.
