UFC Fight Night 33’s Pat Barry: ‘I told UFC I never wanted to fight in Australia’

MMA Oddsbreaker’s Frank Trigg speaks with UFC Fight Night 33 heavyweight Pat Barry as he prepares for his main card bout this weekend (Dec. 7, 2013 in Australia, but Friday, Dec. 6 in US) against Soa Palelei at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

The fan-favorite kickboxer has spent the majority of his mixed martial arts career fighting inside the UFC’s Octagon, but there were two places he was hoping to never have to compete when he initially signed his contract:

“When I joined UFC, I told them, ‘I know they run the show, but I only had two requests. You don’t have to listen to them, but I would like to never, ever, ever, I’ll fight whoever you want me to, you name them I’ll be there….as long as it’s not in Australia.’ Number two was as long as it’s not in Denver, Colorado. But now look where I’m living (in Denver training at Grudge) and fighting (in Australia).”
