MMA Odds and Ends for Tuesday: UFC Singapore Gets Three New Fights

A number of new fights have been added to UFC Fight Night 132, which is set to take place Saturday, June 23 at Singapore Indoor Arena in Kallang, Singapore. The card is headlined by a welterweight contest featuring Donald Cerrone against Leon Edwards, and the following three bouts have been added to this fast-growing event.

Ovince Saint-Preux vs. Tyson Pedro, UFC Fight Night 132

An important lightweight bout pits Saint Preux against Pedro. OSP (22-11) was on a three-fight win streak but was upset by Ilir Latifi in his last bout as he was choked out in the first round back at UFC on FOX 28. OSP is still a top gatekeeper in the division but seems to fail every time he makes it to the top. At 35, we seem to know his ceiling by now. Pedro (7-1) lost to Latifi by decision but rebounded nicely in his last fight. He is coming off of a first-round submission win over Saparbek Safarov in his last fight and has finishes in all of his UFC wins. Pedro is only 26 and should continue to improve. I think OSP is a good fighter but I believe Pedro has more upside. I’ll be curious to see the odds for this one but I would probably lean slightly towards the younger fighter in Pedro right now.

Jake Matthews vs. Shinzo Anzai, UFC Fight Night 132

Welterweights Matthews and Anzai clash in what should be a fun fight. Matthews (13-3) is just 23 and is already 6-3 in the UFC, including back-to-back wins in his last two outings. Matthews has looked much better back up at 170lbs and I still have very high hopes for this kid in th Octagon. Anzai (10-2) is a surprising 2-1 in the UFC and is the former Pancrase middleweight champion. He’s an exciting fighter who earns his nickname “The Animal” every time he fights and he will bring the fight to Matthews. I like this matchup and think it could be more competitive than some believe it will be, but I still expect Matthews to be heavily favored to win.

Matt Schnell vs. Naoki Inoue, UFC Fight Night 132

A pair of flyweights meet as Schnell takes on Inoue. Schnell (10-4) lost his first two UFC bouts but bounced back with a win over Marco Beltran in his last fight. Inoue (11-0) is just 20 years old and looked great in his UFC debut last year when he beat Carls John de Thomas. Though Schnell has more experience, Inoue is one of the hottest prospects in the flyweight division and he likely will be favored to take this bout.
