MMA Odds and Ends for Wednesday: Oliveira vs. Condit Set For UFC on FOX 29

Another day, another injury in MMA. In today’s MMA odds and ends, I’ll give my take on the latest casualty to the injury bug on the UFC roster.

Alex Oliveira vs. Carlos Condit, UFC on FOX 29

A welterweight bout between Alex Oliveira and Carlos Condit is being targeted for UFC on FOX 29. Accordng to Marcelo Barone of Combate, Oliveira is stepping in as a short-notice replacement for Matt Brown, who pulled out of the fight on Monday due to a blown ACL. Oliveira (18-4-1, 2 NC) is 7-3, 1 NC in the UFC and is coming off of a TKO loss to Yancy Medeiros in a 2017 “Fight of the Year” candidate. The Brazilian “Cowboy” is a great fighter both in the standup and on the ground and has proven he can finish fights with five stoppage wins in the UFC alone. Condit (30-11) is 7-7 in the UFC and is coming off of three-straight losses, including a decision defeat to Neil Magny his last time out. Condit is one of the most exciting fighters in the UFC welterweight division, but the fact is he’s a .500 fighter who has struggled to win fights in recent years. While I’m expecting Condit to be the favorite heading into the fight, I do think he’s a good fade candidate going forward, and I think Oliveira has a good chance to upset him. So I’ll be curious to see the odds.

Gillian Robertson vs. Molly McCann, UFC Fight Night Fight Night 130

A women’s flyweight bout between Gillian Robertson and Molly McCann has been added to UFC Fight Night 130, which takes place Sunday, May 27 at Echo Arena in Liverpool, England. The news is according to Nolan King of MMA Today. Robertson (4-2) won her UFC debut with a submission over Emily Whitemire. At just 22, the Canadian has the chance to move quickly up the flyweight ladder if she keeps winning fights. McCann (7-1) is making her UFC debut and was signed after winning six-straight fights on the regional circuit in the UK. The Cage Warriors veteran recently won the CWFC flyweight title and will be entering this fight on quick a roll. While I’m not sure either woman will ever make any noise in the UFC as far as contending for the flyweight title goes, this should be a fun fight. Even though Robertson already has some UFC experience, I’m expecting McCann to open as the favorite for this fight due to having more hype.
