Mixed Martial Arts Veteran Recap: November 2017


At the beginning of every month, I feature my recurring “Veteran Watch” article, which takes a look at some notable veterans competing on the regional/overseas circuit. In this article, I recap how these veteran fighters fared in their respective bouts for the month of November. 

PFL: Fight Night – November 2nd (Washington, DC) 

Blagoi Ivanov def. Caio Alencar via Unanimous Decision 
Bellator veteran Ivanov earns his fifth straight win while Alencar has his four-fight win streak snapped. 

Lance Palmer def. Steven Siler via Unanimous Decision 
Palmer has now won two of his last three fights while Siler suffers back-to-back losses for the first time since 2014. 

Mike Kyle def. Daniel Gallemore via TKO (Knees) 
Strikeforce veteran Kyle earns his second win in his last three fights while Gallemore has his three-fight win streak snapped. 

Wieczór Walk R8 2 – November 4th (Krakow, Poland) 

Tomasz Drwal def. Vasil Ducár via TKO (Boxing Match) 
Former UFC middleweight Drwal competed for the first time since May 2015 and came out on top in his first boxing match. 


Fight Nights Global 78 – November 4th (Togliatti, Russia)

Ayub Gimbatov def. Maiquel Falcão via TKO (Punches) at 4:12, RD.. 1 
Former Bellator standout Falcao has now lost three of his last four fights. Meanwhile Gimbatov earns his fourth-straight win. 

Aspera FC 58: Road to EFC – November 4th (Santa Catarina, Brazil) 

Diego Nunes (20-7) vs. Maicon Miller (7-3) 
Bout cancelled per Tapology

Road FC 44 – November 11th (Hebei, China)

Rony Torres def. Tom Santos via Submission (Armlock) at 4:17, RD. 1
UFC and WSOF veteran Torres earns his 11th win in a row while Santos’ four-fight win streak comes to an end. 

RCC 1: Fighting in the Cage 1 – November 11th (Ekaterinburg, Russia)

Ivan Shtyrkov def. Christian M’Pumbu via Unanimous Decision 
Former Bellator champion M’Pumbu has his two-fight win streak snapped, while Shtyrkov remains undefeated with his 12th straight win. 

Sugar Creek Showdown 33 – November 11th (Hinton, Oklahoma)

Tony Lopez def Josh Clark via Unanimous Decision
Bellator veteran Lopez has now won nine of his last ten fights while Clark loses for the third time in his last four fights. 

Pancrase 291 – November 12th (Tokyo, Japan) 

Issei Tamura def. Takumi Suzuki via Unanimous Decision 
Former UFC bantamweight Tamura gets bakc on the winning track while Suzuki has his five-fight win streak snapped. 

KOTC: New Beginning – November 16th (Worley, Idaho) 

Elizabeth Phillips def Nikohl Johnson via Unanimous Decision 
UFC/Invicta FC veteran Phillips has now won two of her last three fights. Meanwhile Johnson drops to 4-4 overall and has lost four of her last five fights. 

Brave CF 9 – November 17th (Isa Town, Bahrain)

Lucas Martins (19-3) vs. Elias Boudegzdame (14-4) 
Former UFC featherweight Martins looks for his fifth win in a row as he battles 23-year-old Boudegzdame. Martins has won four-straight fights since leaving the UFC in 2015, including a second-round submission victory over Fabian Galvan at Brave CF 3 in March. Boudegzdame meanwhile has won his last four fights by submission and hasn’t lost since August 2015. 

Alan Omer def. “JZ” Gesias Cavalcante via TKO, RD. 3 
UFC veteran Omer notches his third win in a row while Cavalcante has now lost back-to-back fights by knockout. 

SCL 64 – November 18th (Denver, Colorado)

Josh Copeland def. Jared Togeson via unanimous decision 
Former UFC/WSOF heavyweight Copeland earns his fourth-straight win while Togeson meanwhile has now lost four of his last five fights. 

BFL 52 – November 18th (Richmond, British Columbia)

Matt Dwyer (9-4) vs. Chris Anderson (6-0) 
Bout cancelled due to Anderson illness. 

ONE Championship: Immortal Pursui– November 24th (Kallang, Singapore)

Ben Askren def. Shinya Aoki via TKO (Punches) at 0:57, RD. 1 
Former Bellator welterweight champion Askren earns his 18th win in a row while Aoki suffers back-to-back losses. 

ACB 75: Sweden – November 25th (Sweden) 

Sirwan Kakai (12-5) vs. Luca Iovine (11-1) 
Bout cancelled 

Cage Warriors 89 – November 25th (Antwerp, Belgium)

Cindy Dandois def. Kerry Hughes via TKO (Punches) Rd. 1 
One time UFC competitor Dandois earns her first win since November 2016 while Hughes drops to 2-3 in her last five fights.
