A rare Sunday afternoon offering from the UFC will be on tap this weekend, as the Octagon travels to Scotland for UFC Fight Night 113. A battle between ranked welterweights headlines the card, as No. 8 Gunnar Nelson takes on No. 14 Santiago Ponzinibbio. While Nelson possesses a well-rounded skill set, this certainly has the makings of a striker versus grappler matchup.
Nelson brings a two-fight winning streak into this contest while Ponzinibbio has been victorious four consecutive times. Nelson’s overall body of work saw him open as the -270 favorite (bet $270 to win $100) with Ponzinibbio a +190 underdog (bet $100 to win $190). Since then, the line has tightened and now stands at -190 and +165 for the Icelander (click here for live odds).
The remainder of the main card sees three of the four Scottish fighters on the UFC roster competing. Among those individuals is Joanne Calderwood, who takes on Cynthia Calvillo in the co-main event. Calvillo’s two UFC appearances have both been submission victories on the main card of Pay-Per-View events, and now she gets another high-profile spot in a televised co-main event. Meanwhile, Calderwood looks to bounce back from a submission loss to Jessica Andrade in her last outing.
Another bout between lightweight strikers Stevie Ray and Paul Felder is an early frontrunner for “Fight of the Night,” as each man hopes to extend his winning ways. Finally for the Scots on the main card, submission threat Paul Craig has the opportunity to bounce back from his first career loss as he takes on striker Khalil Rountree. The final two main card bouts are in the middleweight and heavyweight divisions, with Welshman Jack Marshman facing Canadian submission artist Ryan Janes in the continuing trend on this card while James Mulheron will be making his UFC debut against Justin Willis, respectively.
