Saturday’s British Boxing Action & Betting Odds (April 22, 2017)

A pair of boxing cards scheduled for this Saturday (April 22, 2017) across the pond in England are already getting attention at the sportsbooks, and both cards may see more fights posted as we get closer to fight time. The Echo Arena in Liverpool hosts Eddie Hearn and his Matchroom Boxing for a nine-fight boxing card that will see veteran Martin Murray (34-4-1) facing off against Gabriel Rosado (23-10) in the evening’s main event.

Murray is the local hero, and he is still a big draw, so you can see what Hearn is doing here bringing in Rosado as an opponent Murray will be favored against. At 34 years old, Murray is 2-2 in his last four fights, with the losses coming to former world champion Arthur Abraham and fellow countryman George Groves. Rosado took a loss in his last outing, snapping a two-fight winning streak for the veteran.

British veterans Rocky Fielding (23-1) and John Ryder (24-3) will also meet for the vacant BBBofC title at 168 pounds. Both men have solid resumes that have crossed over from the regional competition into international opponents, and both men have done well. The lone loss on Fielding’s record came at the hands of Callum Smith while Ryder’s last defeat came at the hands of undefeated Jack Arnfield, and he has a razor-thin loss to WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders on his resume as well.

There are a pair of regional belts on the line on the undercard in bouts of 10 and 12 rounds in length. Check back later in the week to see if more lines have been added.

Echo Arena – Liverpool, England

Middleweight – 12 rounds
Gabriel Rosado +260
Martin Murray -320

Super Middleweight – 12 rounds
John Ryder +200

Also on Saturday, Frank Warren and his Queensbury Promotions are at the Leciester Arena with a full night of fights that has 16 fights scheduled on the program. Right now, the bout attracting attention at the books is the bantamweight tussle between Zolani Tete (24-3) and Arthur Villanueva (30-1). The bout was moved from last week’s Queensbury event in Manchester, and the fight is considered a WBO bantamweight title eliminator, meaning the winner could face WBO champion Marlon Tapales of the Philippines. Do not rule out a match with IBF champ Lee Haskins or WBA champion Jamie McDonnell, as both Britishers operate in the bantamweight division as well. With three regional title bouts and an interim world title bout on the card too, look for more lines from Leceister at the books later on in the week.
