MMAOddsBreaker’s Submission of the Month for February 2017‘s Submission of the Month for February 2017 goes to UFC middleweight Gerald Meerschaert at UFC Fight Night 105 on February 19th. Meerschaert entered the Octagon in Halifax, Nova Scotia coming off a first-round guillotine choke of Joe Gigliotti in his UFC debut. In his effort to improve to 2-0, he took on undefeated countryman Ryan Janes on enemy territory and was put on his back in the early going of the opening stanza. It did not take long for Meerschaert to lock up an armbar off his back to get the tap from Janes, ultimately earning his second consecutive first-round submission win in the UFC and handing Janes the first official loss of his professional MMA career. It was a solid submission and victory for the Duke Roufus-trained fighter, who continues to make noise in the UFC’s 185-pound division. Congratulations, Gerald Meerschaert!
