Ask Cousin Gabe: UFC 208 Edition

Poirier‘Ask Cousin Gabe’ is an article at MMA Oddsbreaker where I answer questions from readers. If you would like to ask me a question, regarding wagering, any upcoming fight cards, or MMA in general, please email it to budosophy@gmail.com and make sure to include your name and location. If you have any questions for the upcoming Lewis vs Browne card, please shoot them through! “Who do you think will be Demetrious Johnson’s next opponent?” -Trevor, Nyack, NY Joseph Benavidez. It’s time to make that third fight. Word on the skreets was that Benavidez suffered a concussion in training 10 days or so prior to his first bout against Johnson, which he lost by split decision. He got caught and knocked out cold in the first round of their rematch, and people were quick to say that DJ has his number, so that’s why it’s taken him so long to get a third crack at him. During their first two fights, I believed Benavidez was the better fighter of the two, but he did not perform on top of his game. Today, I think Johnson is the better fighter, and I would guess he’d be a decent favorite at the sportsbooks, in which case I would consider a value play on “Joe B” as a live dog. “If you had to pick one fighter on this card to go all-in on, who would it be? -Lawrence, Texas Thank you for your question, Lawrence from the entire giant state of Texas. The fighter on this card I am most confident in and see the most betting value in is Germaine De Randamie. I think she defeats Holly Holm, and I favor her to do so by T/KO. I believe “The Iron Lady” will be the UFC’s inaugral Women’s Featherweight Champion. I recommended her at -125 in my article and she is currently -135. I thought she would end up as an underdog but the betting public has been more wise than than I expected. At the current odds, I just don’t see how you could pass her up. “Went 3-2 on your parlay last week. Do you have another 5-teamer for me?” -Stan, Las Vegas, NV Ask and ye shall receive: De Randamie (-135) Poirier (-450) Muhammed (+120) Makhachev (-310) LaFlare (-335) 1.5u to win 10.55u One underdog, one slight favorite and three big favorites.
