francis-ngannouUFC on FOX 23: Shevchenko vs Pena Date: January 28, 2017 Arena: Pepsi Center City: Denver, CO The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is back in Denver, CO for the sixth time in promotional history with UFC on FOX 23: Shevchenko vs Pena. The 12-fight card is set to kick off with preliminary action on UFC Fight Pass at 4pm ET. Prelims will continue on FOX Sports 1 at 5pm and the main card get underway at 8pm on FOX. If interested in wagering on any bouts for this fight card, all betting lines will be made available to you at Several Bookmakers. My Over/Under Totals are: Heavyweight bout: Andrei Arlovski (+340) vs Francis Ngannou (-425) Gabe’s Thoughts: The only way Arlovski surives the first round of this heavyweight match-up is if he successfully gets a hold of Ngannou and holds him against the cage for the majority of the stanza, a la in his bout against Brendan Schaub. I think this is Ngannou’s fight to lose and I expect it to be a big “coming out party” for the French heavyweight. I think his power will prove to be too much for Arlovski and I see him ultimately earning the biggest victory of his professional mixed martial arts career with a finish over the former UFC Heavyweight Champion. I don’t love Ngannou at -425, however I do like the Total of Under 1.5 rounds at -185. Gabe’s Call: Ngannou by T/KO (punches, 0:53 round 1) Gabe’s Recommended Play: Under 1.5 rounds (-185) 1.85u to win 1u Featherweight bout: Alex Caceres (+140) vs Jason Knight (-160) Gabe’s Thoughts: I think this is going to be a fun fight in the UFC’s 145-pound division, with Caceres coming off a split decision loss to Yair Rodriguez and Knight coming off a unanimous decision win against Dan Hooker. Both of these fighters are generally fun to watch and always put on a show, giving it their all inside the Octagon. I favor Knight to get his hand raised here, however the play I like is the Total of Over 2.5 rounds at -240, as I think this 145-pound contest hits the judges’ scorecards for a decision much more often than not, regardless of who is getting his hand raised. Gabe’s Call: Knight by Split Decision (28-29, 29-28, 29-28) Gabe’s Recommended Play: Over 2.5 rounds (-240) 2.4u to win 1u Click Here to Make a Donation!
