Mixed Martial Arts Veteran Recap: December 2016

In this article, I recap how these veteran fighters fared in their respective bouts for the month of December. December 2nd – ONE Championship: Age of Domination (Pasay City, Philippines) Brandon Vera def. Hideki Sekine via TKO (Punches) at 3:11, RD. 1  UFC veteran Vera has now won three straight fights while Sekine loses for the first time in his career. December 2nd – Brave CF 2: Dynasty (Isa Town, Bahrain)  Masio Fullen (11-6) vs. Alan Omer (19-5)  Bout cancelled due to an injury to Omer. Elias Boudegzdame def. Walel Watson via Submission, RD. 1  Boudegzdame has now won four straight fights by stoppage while Watson loses back-to-back fights for the first time since 2013. December 2nd – Titan FC 42: Lima vs. Jackson (Coral Gables, Florida)  Jason Jackson def. Dhiego Lima via TKO (Punches) at 2:10, RD. 1.  TUF 21 competitor Jackson not only captured the Titan FC welterweight title but also improved his winning streak to four in a row. Lima has his two-fight win streak snapped. Jack May (8-3) vs. Volkan Oezdemir (12-1)  Bout cancelled due to May injuring himself the night of the fight. Kurt Holobaugh def. Yosdenis Cedeno via Submission (Rear Naked Choke) at 1:22, RD. 3  Holobaugh improves to 6-2 since his UFC release in 2013 and earns back-to-back stoppage victories. Cedeno hasn’t won a fight since 2014. Hayder Hassan (6-3) vs. Adriano Capitulino (4-1)  Bout cancelled due to an injury to Hassan. Gesias (JZ) Cavalcante def. Robert Turnquest via Unanimous Decision.  Cavalcante has now won three of his last four fights while Turnquest has now lost two of his last three fights. December 2nd – Legacy FC 63 (Tulsa Oklahoma) Gerald Harris def. Aaron Cobb via TKO (Slam) at 0:48, RD. 1  WSOF/UFC vet Harris has now won six of his last seven fights as he returned to action for the first time since 2013. Cobb, meanwhile, not only came in overweight for this welterweight matchup (ended up being a 225-pound catchweight) but he’s lost two of his last three fights. December 3rd – KSW 37 (Krakow, Poland)  Borys Mańkowski def. John Maguire via Unanimous Decision.  Mankowski improves his winning streak to six straight, while Maguire has his five-fight win streak snapped. December 3rd – Europeon Beatdown 1 (Mons, Belguim)  Efrain Escudero def. Nelson Carvalho via Split Decision TUF 8 winner Escudero earns  his second straight win since his UFC release, while Carvalho has his four fight win streak snapped. December 9th – Fight Nights Global 56 (Vladivostok, Russia) Maiquel Falcao def Vladimir Mineev via Majority Decision  UFC/Bellator vet Falcao has now earned back-to-back victories and subsequently handed Mineev the first loss of his career. December 9th – Victory FC 54 (Omaha, Nebraska) Rob Emerson def. Ryan Roberts via TKO (Injury)  UFC and Bellator veteran Emerson becomes a multi-division champion for Victory FC as along with owning the 135-pound title he just won the 145-pound title. In addition, Emerson improves to 7-1 in his last eight fights. Roberts has now lost two-straight fights. December 10th – Road FC 35 (Seoul, South Korea) Scott Jorgensen (15-12) vs. Soo Chul Kim (14-5-1)  Bout cancelled due to an injury to Jorgensen. Siala Siliga (Mighty Mo) def. Carlos Toyota via TKO (Punch) at 1:10, RD. 1 The 46-year-old Mighty Mo earns his fifth win in a row while Toyota has now lost three of his last four fights. December 10th – IT Fight Series 48 (Columbus, Ohio)  Dan Spohn def. Jeff Hughes via TKO (Punches) at 2:02, RD. 2  Bellator/UFC veteran Spohn earns back-to-back victories while Hughes has his six-fight win streak snapped. December 10th – Imortal FC 6 (Curitiba, Brazil) Fabio Maldonado (22-11) vs. Cristian Torres (11-6)  Bout cancelled due to an illness to Maldonado. December 10th – BAMMA 27  (Dublin, Ireland)  Niklas Bäckström (10-2) vs. Brian Moore (9-4)  Bout cancelled per Tapology December 16th – Fight Nights Global 57 (Moscow, Russia)  Norman Parke (22-5-1) vs. Akhmet Aliev (14-4)  Bout cancelled per Tapology December 16th – Fight Time 34 (Fort Lauderdale, Florida)  Vagner Rocha (13-4) vs. Yoislandy Izquierdo (10-3)  Bout cancelled per mixedmartialarts.com December 17th – CFFC 62 (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) Andy Main (11-2-1) vs. Jared Gordon (11-1) Bout cancelled per Tapology December 17th – CXF 5: Night of Champions (Studio City, California)  Alfred Khashakyan def. Chris Beal via TKO (Punches) at 2:56, RD. 1  TUF 18 competitor Beal has now lost four straight fights while Khashakyan has won three of his last four fights. December 17th – Absolute Championship Berkut 50: The Evolution (St Petersburg, Russia)  Brett Cooper def. Aslambek Saidov via TKO (Punches) at 0:27, RD.3  Former Bellator title challenger Cooper earns his second straight win. Saidov has his four-fight win streak snapped. December 23rd – Victory FC 55 (Topeka, Kansas)  Dakota Cochrane def. Jake Lindsey via Submission at 0:53, RD. 1  Cochrane has now won four in a row while Lindsey has lost five of his last seven fights. December 29th – RIZIN Fighting World Grand Prix 2016: 2nd Round (Saitama, Japan)  Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic (32-11-2) vs. Wanderlei Silva (35-12-1)  (UPDATE) Bout cancelled due to an injury to Silva.
