Post-UFC Fight Night 99: And the Bonus Goes to…

Kevin LeeThe Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was in Belfast, Northern Ireland for the first time in promotional history with UFC Fight Night 99: Mousasi vs Hall II. The 13-fight card produced a ton of excitement, with more than 50 percent of the contested bouts ending inside the distance. Following the entertaining evening of scraps in Northern Ireland, the UFC awarded $50,000 to four fighters for ‘Performance of the Night’ honors. The lines to wager on these props were available at Several Bookmakers. Jack Marshman earns Performance of the Night honors his second-round TKO of Magnus Cedenblad, snapping the Swede’s impressive four-fight winning streak. The victory puts Marshman on a seven-fight winning streak and it was an impressive way to kick off his UFC career. He rocked Cedenblad early in the first round and forced a takedown and spent the rest of the opening frame on his back, ultimately losing the round. Cedenblad was the more fatigued fighter heading into the second stanza, and he was unable to turn it into a wrestling match, as Marshman kept tagging him on the feet until he eventually scored a knockdown and secured a TKO stoppage. It was a solid debut for the Welsh middleweight, who has some gaps in his game he needs to fill if he plans on cracking into the division’s Top 15 rankings. Kevin Lee earns Performance of the Night honors for his second-round rear-naked choke technical submission victory over Magomed Mustafaev, who was riding red-hot on a very impressive 13-fight winning streak. Lee now enjoys a three-fight winning streak of his own and looks to extend that to four while drawing ranked opposition for his next outing inside the Octagon. Justin Lidet earns Performance of the Night honors for his first-round rear-naked choke submission win over promotional newcomer Mark Godbeer. Lidet used his superior grappling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu game to make quick work of Godbeer, after using his striking to win his UFC debut against Chase Sherman. Now 2-0 inside the Octagon, Lidet is someone to keep an eye out for in the UFC’s heavyweight division. Abdul Razak Alhassan earns Performance of the Night honors for his first-round knockout of fellow promotional newcomer Charlie Ward. It was a very impressive debut for Alhassan, who remains undefeated as a pro and gains a lot of new fans with the highlight reel finish. Other noteworthy performances: – Zak Cummings defeated Alexander Yakovlev with an impressive straight armbar in the second round of action. He managed to submit the Russian, which is something Demian Maia and Kamaru Usman were unable to do. The victory puts Cummings back in the win column following a unanimous-decision loss to Santiago Ponzinibbio, which marked the Missouri native’s first official loss at 170 pounds. – Marion Reneau dominated and defeated Milena Dudieva via third-round TKO to bounce back into the win column following a controversial split-decision loss to Ashlee Evans-Smith earlier this year. – Brett Johns defeated fellow promotional newcomer Kwan Ho Kawk via UD, and he looked great doing it. The Welsh fighter secured 11 takedowns on his way to dominant 30-27 scores across the board. I was a fan of his, so I was looking forward to his UFC debut. He made many more fans with this bout and we all look forward to his next Octagon appearance.
