Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC Winnipeg Opening Odds:

  • The main event of UFC Winnipeg is a five-round welterweight bout featuring Gilbert Burns against Mike Malott. Burns has lost four straight fights, and he is barely clinging to a top-15 ranking at this point. To be fair to Burns, he has only been fighting elite opposition, but it has still been a struggle for him over the last few years. As for Malott, he is 6-1 in the UFC and is coming off the biggest win of his career over Kevin Holland. Since losing to Neil Magny in a massive upset two years ago in his home turf of Toronto, Malott has been on a roll, and he now gets his first main event slot. Burns is on the decline, and Malott may finish him here.
  • In the co-main event, Charles Jourdain looks to break into the top 15 at bantamweight when he takes on Kyler Phillips. Jourdain has looked phenomenal since dropping down to 135 lbs, submitting Davey Grant and Victor Henry. As for Phillips, he is coming off two straight losses to Vinicius Oliveira and Rob Font, and he appears to be in a significant decline. With Jourdain fighting at home in this matchup, it should be his fight to win. Look for Jourdain to pick up one of the biggest wins of his career to date, and it makes sense that he is the betting favorite heading into this fight.
