Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC Nashville Opening Odds:
- In the main event, we have Derrick Lewis taking on Tallison Teixeira in a five-round heavyweight bout that likely won’t go the distance. Lewis last fought in May 2024 when he finished Rodrigo Nascimento. For all of his faults, he is one of the most powerful punchers in UFC heavyweight history, and he is always a possibility for winning by knockout, regardless of the betting odds. As for Teixeira, he is 1-0 in the UFC with a brutal KO win over Justin Tafa in his promotional debut. Still, he is unproven at the highest level of the sport, and Lewis is a solid gatekeeper. Teixeira has all the potential in the world to win this fight devastatingly, but you can’t count out Lewis, who has won many fights as an underdog before in the UFC.
- In the co-main event, we have Stephen Thompson putting his ranking on the line against Gabriel Bonfim. Thompson is 43 and is the oldest fighter in the UFC right now, and he has lost four of his last five bouts entering this contest. As for Bonfim, he has been on a roll as of late with two straight wins in impressive fashion. The odds for Bonfim are long, but given you have to fade Thompson at this point in his career, it makes sense that Bonfim is the favorite here.
