Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC Atlanta Opening Odds:
- The main event of UFC Atlanta, former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman returns to the Octagon after a long layoff when he battles Joaquin Buckley. Usman last fought Khamzat Chimaev in a majority decision loss, his third loss in a row, albeit to top competition. As for Buckley, he has won his last six fights in a row as he’s turned into a serious contender at 170 lbs. Although Usman opened up as the betting favorite for this fight, the line quickly flipped, and now Buckley enters as the favorite for what would be the biggest win of his career.
- In the co-main event, we have Rose Namajunas taking on Miranda Maverick at women’s flyweight. Namajunas is coming off a decision loss to Erin Blanchfield in her last fight, which snapped a two-fight win streak. As for Maverick, she has won her last four fights in a row and six of he last seven fights overall as she has become a serious contender at 125 lbs. Namajunas is the more experienced fighter and a former champion, so she deserves her favorite status in this fight. That being said, Maverick does have the grappling pedigree to at least make things interesting, especially if she can take Namajunas down to the ground.
