Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC 316 Opening Odds:
- In the main event of UFC 316, we have a rematch between UFC bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili and Sean O’Malley. These two fought last fall in the main event of the Noche UFC card, and this rematch should be very interesting to see what happens, given how dominant Dvalishvili was in the first fight. After that bout, O’Malley got surgery on his hip, and it will be intriguing to see if that helps him improve his takedown defense and get-up game in this rematch. That being said, Dvalishvili was utterly dominant the first time these two fought, and there is no reason to think he won’t get takedowns in the rematch, so it makes total sense why the champ is the favorite to retain his title in this highly anticipated rematch for the belt.
- As for the co-main event, UFC women’s bantamweight champion Julianna Pena fights rival Kayla Harrison. Pena is a two-time champion, and while she always gets huge underdog odds, you can’t deny that she is a worthy champ and a good fighter. That being said, Harrison has looked unstoppable so far inside the Octagon, so it’s not a surprise that she has opened up as a massive betting favorite to win the belt against Pena despite having less UFC experience.
