Here are my initial thoughts on the Opening Odds For Dana White’s Contender Series 72:
- We have a bantamweight bout between Aaron Tau and Elijah Smith on deck in the headliner of this week’s DWCS card. Tau is unbeaten with a perfect 8-0 record and fights out of City Kickboxing. Almost all of his wins have come by stoppage, showing how dangerous he is with his finishing ability. As for Smith, he is the son of former UFC fighter Gilbert Smith. The younger Smith is also a finisher who has stopped his last four opponents since his only career defeat to Reyes Cortez. He is a solid prospect in his own right who has quite a bit of potential. This is a fight that could likely go either way. Tau had originally opened as the favorite, but Smith is now favored to get the win here heading into the bout.
- Also on the card is a welterweight bout between Joey Hart and Benjamin Bennett. Hart is coming into this fight off of four straight stoppage victories, while Bennett has won his last three fights in a row. This should be a good fight, but you have to lean toward Hart just because he has a bit more momentum coming into this fight, plus more finishing ability. Either way, this should be a good fight that likely won’t need the judges to score it.
