Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC 281 Opening Odds:

  • The main event of UFC 281 features UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya taking on rival Alex Pereira. Adesanya has won his last three fights in a row after losing to Jan Blachowicz up at 205lbs, which was his only loss in the Octagon. As for Pereira, he has won all three fights he’s been booked for since joining the UFC roster. Of course, these two have previously met in kickboxing twice, with Pereira winning both fights. This should be a competitive bout, but Adesanya is the champ and he has earned his betting favorite status.
  • The co-main event of UFC 281 sees UFC women’s strawweight champion Carla Esparza putting her belt on the line against Weili Zhang. Esparza has won her last six fights in a row, including a controversial split decision win over Rose Namajunas in her last outing. As for Zhang, she beat Joanna Jedrzejczyk via brutal knockout in her last fight to get another title shot. Even though Esparza is the champion, it’s Zhang who is the favorite here. Even though Esparza has the wrestling skills, Zhang has the power and athleticism to win this fight.
