Here are my initial thoughts on the Opening Odds For Dana White’s Contender Series 54:

  • This week’s Contender Series features a number of exciting prospects, including bantamweights Farid Basharat and Allan Begosso. Basharat’s older brother Javid joined the UFC last year and is looking great inside the Octagon, so the addition of his younger brother Farid should be a nice get for the UFC roster. He is unbeaten at 8-0 with the majority of his wins coming by way of stoppage and he appears to have an excellent ground game. That is going to come in handy this week when he takes on Begosso, who is a very talented and dangerous striker. Begosso is coming off of an incredible knockout in LFA and he should also be a solid addition to the UFC roster if he makes it. However, his weakness appears to be grappling and now he’s taking on a good grappler, leading to Basharat being the favorite.
  • Another interesting fight on this card features lightweights Trevor Peek and Malik Lewis. Peek is coming off of an amazing knockout win over former UFC fighter Khama Worthy in Aries Fight Series and appears to be a very good prospect with a lot of knockout power. As for Lewis, he is also an unbeaten prospect and is coming off of a string of finishes. Both guys have never seen the scorecards in their career, and that’s why this is a Pick ’em fight.
