Here are my initial thoughts on the Opening Odds for LFA 140:

  • The main event of LFA 140 is a five-round vacant LFA flyweight title bout between Carlos Mota and Rizvan Abuev. Mota lost two fights ago in LFA in a back-and-forth war against current UFC fighter Charles Johnson, but he picked up a win on the regional scene to get another opportunity at the LFA flyweight belt. He is one of the best flyweights currently not in the UFC and if he wins the LFA title, there’s a good chance he could join Johnson on the UFC roster. As for Abuev, this is his LFA debut after having won his last three fights in a row. Although Abuev is certainly a talented fighter, Mota deserves his favorite status due to his body of work in LFA.
  • Also on the card is a featherweight bout between Dwight Joseph and Mairon Santos. Joseph defeated Jay Perrin on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2019 but he wasn’t given a UFC contract. Since then, he has won his last two fights in a row to get this opportunity in LFA. As for Santos, he lost to current UFC fighter Dan Argueta in his last fight but was unbeaten before that. Both guys are solid, but Joseph has fought better competition and opened as the favorite here to win this fight.
