Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC 274 Opening Odds:

  • The main event of UFC 274 is a five-round lightweight title bout between the champion Charles Oliveira and the challenger Justin Gaethje. Oliveira has won 10 straight fights and he has proven that he’s the best lightweight in the sport. Over those 10 fights, Oliveira has defeated the likes of Dustin Poirier, Michael Chandler, and Tony Ferguson. While Oliveira was once considered a “quitter” by fans and someone who didn’t show heart in his fights, those days are long over as he’s now the best lightweight in the sport. Of course, he’ll have a tough task in front of him in Gaethje, who is coming off of a great win over Chandler last year. Gaethje is one of the best in the world, but Oliveira deservingly opened up as the favorite here.
  • The co-main event is a rematch between women’s strawweight champion Rose Namajunas and Carla Esparza. These two met back in 2014, with Esparza winning by submission to claim the inaugural 115lbs title. In the years since then, both women have achieved a ton of success inside the Octagon, but Namajunas has improved since then. As the champion, it’s no surprise that she opened up as the favorite to defend her title, despite the pair’s previous encounter. That being said, Esparza’s wrestling can give anyone problems, so don’t count her out.
