Here are my initial thoughts on the Opening Odds For Bellator 278:

  • The main event of Bellator 278 is a women’s flyweight title bout between champion Juliana Velasquez and challenger Liz Carmouche. Velasquez is unbeaten at 12-0 in her MMA career and she is a perfect 7-0 in Bellator since joining the promotion in 2017. She has looked incredible in Bellator for the most part, although she did struggle in a split decision win over Denise Kielholtz in her last outing. As for Carmouche, she is a former UFC title challenger in two different weight classes. Since joining Bellator in 2020, Carmouche is 3-0 en route to landing this title shot against Velasquez. This is a close fight on paper, for sure. Velasquez is excellent, but Carmouche is incredibly experienced and strong as hell. The opening odds are competitive for a reason, and that’s because both women have the skills to win this fight.
  • In the co-main event, it’s a bantamweight tournament alternate bout between Enrique Barzola and Nikita Mikhailov. Barzola is another former UFC fighter who picked up a big TKO win over former champ Darrion Caldwell in his Bellator debut earlier this year. As for Nikita Mikhailov, he is currently on a six-fight win streak, including two straight knockout wins in Bellator. The opening odds were a near Pick ’em, showing you how competitive this fight should be.
