Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC 271 Opening Odds:

  • The main event of UFC 271 is the rematch between UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya and Robert Whittaker. These two first met back at UFC 243 in October 2019, with Adesanya winning the fight via knockout. Since then, Adesanya has defeated Yoel Romero, Paulo Costa, and Marvin Vettori at 185lbs, with a loss to Jan Blachowicz at 205lbs. As for Whittaker, since losing to Adesanya he has defeated Kelvin Gastelum, Jared Cannonier, and Darren Till to earn another title shot at the belt he used to wear. As good as Whittaker has looked lately, Adesanya just feels like a nightmare stylistic matchup for him, and it’s no surprise to see “The Last Stylebender” open as a sizeable favorite to defend his belt in this matchup.
  • The co-main event features a pair of hard-hitting heavyweights when Derrick Lewis takes on Tai Tuivasa. Lewis is coming off of a big KO win over Chris Daukaus in his last fight, while Tuivasa has won his last four fights in a row by knockout. This should be a fun fight for as long as it lasts, but due to Lewis’ experience and fighting in Houston, he opened as a small favorite.
