Here are my initial thoughts on the Opening Odds For Dana White’s Contender Series 43:
- The main event of DWCS 43 is a bantamweight bout between Christian Rodriguez and Reyes Cortez, the brother of UFC women’s flyweight Tracy Cortez. Rodriguez turned pro in 2019 and he has won all five of his MMA fights since then by stoppage. He has fought for a number of bigger MMA promotions including Bellator, LFA, and CFFC. As for Cortez, he is 5-1 as a pro with four of those wins coming by way of stoppage. With Cortez being born into a family of MMA fighters, I’m curious to see how he fares in this matchup. That being said, Rodriguez has certainly performed at a high level so far in his career, so this should be an interesting fight. However, I agree with the bookies opening up the unbeaten Rodriguez as the betting favorite.
- The co-main event of DWCS 43 features a heavyweight bout between Martin Buday and Lorenzo Hood. Buday has won his last seven fights in a row and his only career loss came against current UFC heavyweight Juan Espino. As for Hood, he is coming off of three straight knockout losses heading into this fight. However, it’s worth noting that Hood has been finished four times in his MMA career. Going up against a finisher like Buday, this looks like a bad matchup for Hood, and not surprisingly, he is the biggest underdog on this card.
