Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC Vegas 34 Opening Odds:

  • The main event of UFC Vegas 34 features a battle between top-10 ranked middleweights Jared Cannonier and Kelvin Gastelum. Cannonier hasn’t fought since last fall when he lost a decision to Robert Whittaker in a fight where he broke his arm. Now that his arm is fully healed, he’s returning to the cage against another top contender in Gastelum, who is also coming off of a decision loss to Whittaker. Based on the fact they are each coming off of a loss to a common opponent and both are ranked in the top-10, this should be an important fight when it comes to the UFC middleweight division rankings. Cannonier opened as the clear favorite for this matchup, but Gastelum has pulled off his fair share of upsets in the UFC.
  • Another important fight on this card is a battle between top-10 ranked flyweights Brandon Royval and Alexandre Pantoja. Royval is coming off of an injury TKO loss to current champion Brandon Moreno but prior to that, he had won four straight fights. As for Pantoja, he has a 7-3 record in the UFC and is one of the most underrated fighters at 125lbs. This should be an awesome fight for as long as it lasts, and the winner will be closing in on the title picture.
