Here are my initial thoughts on the Opening Odds for LFA 109:

  • The main event of LFA 109 features Terrance McKinney (9-3) against Michael Irizarry (12-3) at 145lbs. McKinney was on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2019 but he suffered a flying knee KO loss to current UFC fighter Sean Woodson on the show. Since then, he has gone 2-1, including a head kick KO in his last outing in LFA. McKinney enters this fight against Irizarry as the underdog. Irizarry is making his LFA debut after competing primarily in the MaxxFC promotion in Peurto Rico and also for Combate Americas. He has looked good throughout his career and has submission skills, but I really question his level of competition thus far in his career. This looks like a fight where the dog McKinney has a chance to pull off the upset.
  • The co-main event of LFA 109 features a bantamweight bout between Askar Askar (11-1) against Justin Wetzell (6-1). Askar has fought for several notable promotions including LFA and Titan FC and for the most part, he has looked very good in the cage and could be someone the UFC eventually brings into the big show. As for Wetzell, he has won his last five fights in a row including his last three outings for LFA. Wetzell trains with UFC bantamweight Cory Sandhagen and I feel like he’s being overlooked here. This looks like a dog-or-pass spot.
