Hispanic MMA promotion Combate Americas hosts Combate 53: Copa Combate 2019 at the Manuel Bonilla Coliseum in Lima, Peru on Friday, December 20, 2019 at  9 p.m. ET live on AXS, TUDN and Univision, with prelims streamed live on Facebook. The event features the quarterfinals of an eight-man lightweight tournament.

On one side of the tournament draw, Humberto Bandenay (15-7, 1 NC) will face Hugo “Hache” Prada (8-3), and Jose “Dos Lobos” Luis Verdugo (10-8) will battle undefeated Lucas “Lubera” Corbage (10-0). Prada, like Bandanay, is making his Combate debut. He also has lost three of his last four bouts, most recently losing a decision to Gilber Huila in October. Verdugo is 1-1 in Combate, most recently defeating Erick Sanchez at Combate 42 in August. The 30-year-old Corbage is making his Combate debut and most recently won a decision against Santiago Solis in August.

On the other side of the tournament draw, Yoel “El Gitano” Jimenez (5-3) will collide with former world championship challenger Erick “Ghost Pepper” Gonzalez (10-4); and replacement Kevin “El Polaco” Koldobsky (9-6) will square off with wildcard entrant and recent Combate Americas main event fight winner, Salvador Becerra(8-2).
