Hispanic MMA promotion Combate Americas hosts Combate Hidalgo at the Payne Arena in Hidalgo, Texas on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 9 p.m. ET live on TUDN and Univision, with prelims streamed live on Facebook. The main event features a 210 lb. catchweight bout between Tito Ortiz and Alberto “Del Rio” Rodriguez.
Ortiz vs Rodriguez had its betting odds opened a month ago, but there are several other top fights on the card.
The co-main event features a women’s strawweight bout between Melissa Martinez and Desiree Yanez. Martinez (6-0) has spent nearly her entire career fighting under the Combate Americas banner, posting a 5-0 record in the promotion. She most recently defeated Caroline Galardo via TKO at Combate 36 in April. Yanez (5-1) joined Combate Americas earlier this year and holds a 1-0 record with the promotion. Her four-fight winning streak was recently capped off by a technical submission win over Paulina Vargas at Combate 40 in June.
Another feature bout is a flyweight contest between Joby Sanchez and Daniel Barez. Sanchez (13-5) made Combate Americas debut in October with a unanimous decision victory over Combate standout Jose Alday in the main event of Combate 46. He also is a five-fight UFC veteran while competing twice each in Tuesday Night Contender Series and LFA. Barez (11-4) also recently made his Combate debut with a first round knockout victory over Ivan Hernandez-Flores at Comabte 35 in April. The 30-year-old European is currently riding a five-fight winning streak that includes a pair of appearances in BAMMA..
