Hispanic MMA promotion Combate Americas hosts the event Combate 41 at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California on Friday, August 2, 2019 at 9 p.m. ET live on DAZN, with prelims streamed live on Facebook. The main event of the 9-bout card features a women’s flyweight matchup between Zoila Frausto and Reina Cordoba.
Frausto (14-5) returned from a three-year hiatus in February to win her Combate debut with a first round TKO against Jaime Nievera. The former Bellator champion has bounced back from a four-fight losing streak and has now won two consecutive bouts. Cordoba (9-1) is coming off a long layoff to make her Combate Americas debut and also is fighting outside of her native Costa Rica for the first time. She most recently defeated Alejandra Orozco via second round keylock submission in May of 2017.
The co-main event features a welterweight contest between the reality star JC Llamas and veteran Ivan Castillo. Llamas (8-7) has lost his last two bouts, but is a major veteran of Combate Americas, having advanced to the finals of the first reality show and competed in the inaugural Combate Americas event, where he lost the welterweight finale. Llamas has not fought professionally in two years, but most recently fought a bare knuckle boxing match against UFC veteran Chris Lytle, losing via decision in February. Castillo (17-12) also is coming off a loss and he also is 0-1 under the Combate banner. He most recently lost via second round TKO to Daniel Rodriguez at Combate 31 in February.
